The history of Achinsk goes back to the epoch of feudalism, when in 1683 the first prison-fortress was built on the bank of the Chulym River among the taiga forests. It kept Russian borders from Turkic invaders. Achinsk town continues to develop preserving its ancient traditions.
All members of the bike trip were rather tired. At their last forces they conquered the bald peaks, speeding 10 km per hour. Leaving Mariinsk town at 06:00 in the morning our team arrived at Achinsk at 14:40 p.m.
According to the words of elderly town people, their provincial town, located by the Trans-Siberian railroad, has changed drastically lately. There are many new industrial enterprises now, and the basis of building industry. The town has turned into a big railroad junction. Achinsk was united with the towns Abakan and Lesosibirsk. Quick economic development of the town has changed its social appearance. Previously empty parts of the territory are covered now with many residential areas. There are many new streets – about 200 and their length is 110 km.
Achinsk railway station appeared to be one of the most beautiful along the Trans-Siberian railway.
At the corner of Lenin and Kuibyshev streets there is a wooden house built in the XVIII century. There used to be the entrance to this town from the highway, which led to Moscow and many famous people entered this town – A. Radischev, N. Chernyshevsky, Y. Sverdlov, F. Dzerzhinsky, G. Ordzhonikidze, I. Stalin, E. Stasova and others.
We did not have any public meetings in Achinsk as the request for the meeting was received by the town Administration too late. We had a meeting with kids in the neighboring village. We pray that kids will remember our meeting with them and the sown seeds of the Gospel will bring firth good fruit in their souls.
